Printer Configuration using TCP/IP


Click on the appropriate operating system from the list below for detailed instructions for adding a printer configuration to your system using TCP/IP.

Macintosh OS X 10.5

Macintosh OS X 10.4

Macintosh OS X 10.3

Macintosh OS X 10.5

1. Open "System Preferences"and click on "Print & FAX"

2. Click on the "+" sign to add a new printer

3. Click on the "IP" protocol icon and select "Line Printer Daemon _LD" from the Protocol drop-down
Enter the IP address of the printer you wish to use (obtain address from your lab head).
Leave the "Queue:" field empty .
Enter a name of your choosing in the "Name:" field.
Ender a locattion for the printer (optional)
Select the correct driver for your printer from the "Print Using" drop down.
Note: if your chosen printer does not appear in the list, you'll need to cancel and download the correct driver for your OS from the printer manufacturer.

4. Select the appropriate options for your printer and click on "Continue" and you're done.

 

 

Macintosh OS X 10.4

1. Open "System Preferences"and click on "Print & FAX"

2. Click on the "+" sign to add a new printer

3. Click on the "IP" Printer" icon and select "Line Printer Daemon _LD" from the Protocol drop-down
Enter the IP address of the printer you wish to use (obtain address from your lab head).
Leave the "Queue:" field empty .
Enter a name of your choosing in the "Name:" field.
Ender a locattion for the printer (optional)
Select the correct driver for your printer from the "Print Using" drop down.
Note: if your chosen printer does not appear in the list, you'll need to cancel and download the correct driver for your OS from the printer manufacturer.

4. Select the appropriate options for your printer and click on "Continue" and you're done.

 

 

Windows XP

1. Go to the Start menu and select "Printers and FAXes"

2. Click "Next"

3. Select "Local printer attached to this computer" and be sure to UNCHECK "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer". Click on "Next"

4. Select "Create a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP Port" from the "Type of Port" dropdown.

5. Click on "Next"

6.Enter the IP address of the printer you wish to use (obtain address from your lab head).
Leave the port name identical to the IP address.

7. If your device type is not recognized and correctly identified, select the appropriate device type from the drop-down.
Click on "Next".

8 Click on "Finish"

9. Select the correct driver for your printer.
Note: if your chosen printer does not appear in the list, you'll need to cancel and download the correct driver for your OS from the printer manufacturer.

10. Click on "Next".

11. Enter a name of your choosing for your printer. Click on "Next".

12. Clicl on "Next"

13. 12. Clicl on "Next"

14. 12. Clicl on "Finish" and you're done.
